Jocelyn was born with PH which leads to the high pressure seen in the lungs. This means that the heart needs to beat harder to pump blood through the lungs to pick up the oxygen that your body needs. Because the heart has to work harder, it can start to become more tired especially when you are active. As a result, kids with PH may often find themselves out of breath, tired or dizzy. Just recently, she also has been diagnosed with pulmonary fibrosis which harms the tissues deep in your lungs. The air sacs in your lungs and their supporting structures become scarred and make your lungs thick and stiff. Jocelyn takes several medications to help relieve the symptoms of the PH, Oxygen when required throughout the day and while she is sleeping, an inhaler and breathing treatments when necessary. They travel to Denver every 6 months to see a PH Specialist/Cardiologist and a Pulmonologist and our local cardiologist in Kansas City every 3 months.
